Should You Visit Clearwater, FL?

Clearwater Beach is a popular tourist destination in Florida, known for its white sand beaches, clear blue water, and dolphin sightings. Just a short drive from Tampa and St. Pete, Clearwater is one of the best beaches in the U.S.! My aunt and I love to travel together; she's definitely my most fun family member! We recently spent a long weekend there, and we had a great time exploring everything the city has to offer.

Scoot coupe rental in Clearwater Beach, FL.

1. One of our favorite things to do was rent a tiny car called a Scoot Coupe and cruise around Clearwater and the surrounding areas. I've been dying to rent one of these for like, 8 years when I found out they existed! These are available by the hour or for entire day rentals. These little cars are perfect for getting around the city, and they're a lot of fun to drive. Like a street legal bumper car! They are hilarious, and so much fun! 10/10 I will budget for this again whenever I return to Clearwater!

My aunt and I on a Tiki boat booze cruise in Clearwater Beach, FL.

2. Another highlight of our trip was taking a Clearwater Tiki booze cruise around the harbor. My partner has really turned me onto all things Tiki, and this was a great way to see the city from a different perspective. Dolphins are a frequent sight in the Tampa Bay, which was an added bonus! Our captain told us the history of the harbor, and pointed out some interesting homes and buildings along the way. He ended up having also lived in Richmond previously, so we had great conversation with him, while sipping our bottomless canned cocktails, beer, and wine! As a member of the child free community, I love a good drink inclusive activity!

Sunset beside Pier 60 in Clearwater Beach, FL.

3. After the 1.5h cruise, we stopped at the Pier 60 Market to do some souvenir shopping. Sunsets at Pier 60 is a great place to find locally made goods, from jewelry and art to clothing and souvenirs. The market is open seven days a week, and it's located on the Pier 60 fishing pier, so you can enjoy stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico while you shop. It begins nightly 2 hours before sunset, and ends 2 hours after sunset. There can be over 100 vendors at the Market, so you're sure to find something you love from handmade jewelry and pottery to locally-made clothing and souvenirs. It's a fun and relaxed atmosphere, and you're sure to find something to take home with you.

Beach chairs and umbrellas for rent on Clearwater Beach, FL.

4. Of course, no trip to Clearwater Beach would be complete without spending some time on the beach. We spent one afternoon relaxing on the sand, swimming in the ocean, and watching the sunset. The entire beach has beach loungers and umbrellas available for rent, and were surprisingly reasonable. Even if you're flying in you can still remain comfortable! Public bathrooms and outdoor showers are also available, making the amenities at this beachfront so amazing! It was the perfect way to spend the day.

5. We had a wonderful time in Clearwater Beach, and we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing vacation. There's something for everyone in this destination, from beautiful white sand beaches, boardwalk to explore, and limitless restaurants and bars for nightlife! Here are some additional tips for planning your trip to Clearwater Beach:

  • Be on the lookout for our upcoming travel guide that will be available in our storefront! Join our email list to be notified when the guide hits!

  • The best time to visit is during the spring or fall, when the weather is mild and there is less crowding without so many tourists. The ocean may be too cold for lots of folks, but most hotels have heater pools year round! We went in Oct and the weather was perfect! But be warned: while western Florida doesn't get many hurricanes, September is the start of hurricane season, so check your weather forecast and make sure you purchase TRAVEL INSURANCE!
